What is the impact of the games of chance on the Spanish economy?

(Madrid).- Spain today is one of the countries with the greatest number of restrictions on gambling, casinos and sports betting. Official estimates state that gambling in general currently accounts for 1% of Spain's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

What is the impact of the games of chance on the Spanish economy?

Spain today is one of the countries with the greatest number of restrictions on gambling, casinos and sports betting. Although its intention was to protect its vulnerable population, it was necessary to enact a large number of regulatory measures that prohibited common practices (such as advertising at certain hours of the day, welcome bonuses, or operating restrictions on unapproved pages).

However, this does not imply that the government is not clear about the strength of this sector and its power in the area: online slots sites (such as the featured slots at Casino777), table games, or live casinos produce a lot of income. The public figures provided by the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling (or known by its acronym as DGOJ), indicate a production of 42,000 million euros.

With this large figure in mind, we still have to understand how the casino and gambling industry is helping Spain? And what measures facilitated this aid to the country? You can discover everything in this article.

A good part of GDP and a great source of employment
The sum granted by the casino and gambling sector amounts to around 1% of the Spanish Gross Domestic Product or GDP, which represents a large amount of money when compared to other sectors. In turn, this sector does not skimp on being able to grant jobs to Spaniards.

Both physical casinos, sports betting houses, private companies dedicated to games and online casinos require constant attention. Any department or casino requires trained personnel, which is why nearly 85,000 Spaniards work in the sector as a means of livelihood.

Regulatory measures have facilitated fiscal control
Although the measures may be restrictive around the sector, reality seems to indicate a completely different situation. With an industry much better observed by the government, the country has been able to receive a good amount of taxes from the sector and allocate it to public works of different kinds.

In turn, licensing and the operating conditions necessary to maintain it have done their part in preventing fraud. Casinos need to demonstrate their randomness and goodwill to the authorities by avoiding scams against users.

Additionally, a body specialized in dealing with differences between casinos and users makes it easier to keep track of any extraordinary case, always granting an impartial and appropriate pronouncement for both parties.

Finally, what caused a sudden growth of the industry?
Although the impact of this sector on the economy is clear, one of the characteristics that has contributed the most to it is its growth in recent years. There are many attributions for which the sector has presented an exponential development, but almost all of them point to a single cause: technology.

The technological boom of recent years has allowed the development of games, the feeling of security that they provide and the devices to access establishments, attracting more users. The truth is that, if it continues like this, little by little the sector will be able to increase the amount of income that the country obtains from it.
